Manitouwadge Public School Library

PRESENT:  Mary Ann Hoban – Chairperson, Marcia Newton – Secretary/Parent Rep., Tammy Turner – Treasurer/Parent Rep., Dave Passi – Principal, Nancy Pageau – Tuck Shop Rep., Christine Turnbull – Teacher Rep., Elaine Vaillancourt – Parent Rep., Kelly Sagle – Parent Rep.

Meeting commenced at 6:55 p.m.

1.0 Welcome – A welcome was extended to our new member, Kelly Sagle.

2.0 Adoption of Minutes – September 13, 2004.

3.0 Student Report – Not available.

4.0 Tuck Shop Report – Nancy has agreed to be Tuck Shop Rep. this year.  She reported meeting with the volunteers.  We have two new members, Donna Doetzel & Natalie Dorion.  Natalie needs to be added to the list of purchasers at Dorion’s Valu-Mart and Friends Bakery, as she will be doing the pick ups while Nancy is off.  Nancy will be off for a bit but has taken care of everything for us.  Great Work Nancy and we wish her well!

The pizza rounds and pizza sticks have gone up in price and it was suggested that we just carry the pizza rounds in the Tuck Shop. The pizza rounds are still cheaper than the pizza sticks.  All agreed to this.   Nancy reported on what we make selling the hot rods and she felt the price needed to be decreased from $0.75 to $0.50.  This is reasonable and all agreed.  Mention of a suggestion box for new ideas from Staff and students was brought up.  This box will be placed outside the Tuck Shop.  Milk has gone up considerably this year.  We now pay $1.09 each and get the orders through the Valu-Mart.

The volunteers wanted to know where the money profited, in the Tuck Shop, was spent. The teachers submit a wish list to MPS Council and items are agreed upon for purchase. The Tuck Shop does not make much of a profit.  We charge the lowest price we can on all items.  We are not out to make a lot of money but must charge enough so not to lose money on items.  We do have some extra costs such as, plastic cutlery, ketchup, meal cards, etc. It was suggested that the monthly Minutes and Treasurer’s Report be posted in the Tuck Shop and this will be done.

The volunteers also requested a brighter light bulb in the Tuck Shop and this will not be a problem either.

5.0 Treasurers Report – Tammy gave report.  June 13/04 – Oct. 12/04.

Report is as follows:

            Balance Forwarded      $1066.32

                        Revenue                       $  931.72

                        Expenses                      $  932.66

                        Closing Balance            $1067.26

6.0 Teacher’s Report - Chris Turnbull informed the council of the intramural activities going on in the school currently and the Literacy/Numeracy Program.  She has also informed us that there will be a Student Representative, from the Grade 8 Class, at future meetings, to report to and from the student body.

7.0 Principal’s Report – Dave presented the Council Members with a brief outline of happenings in the school throughout September/04.  Please see attached Report.

A few additional items not covered in the Report are:

1.)    The EQAO Testing for Grade 3 & 6 students this year - The amount of time will be decreased to 6 hours and the testing will take place later in the year so the teachers have more time to cover the necessary material.

2.)    The Literacy/Numeracy Program - Chris Turnbull, Brenda Cordeiro, and Peggy Vardy are running this after school for the Grade 7 & 8 students in preparation towards the Grade 10 Literary Test.

8.0 New Business:  Mary-Ann Hoban has agreed to stay on as Council Chair.  Thank you for your dedication to the Council.  Tammy will remain Treasurer and Marcia will be Secretary again.  Chris Turnbull will remain as Teacher Rep. Kelly Sagle has been welcomed as our newest Parent Council Rep. Thanks to all.  Elaine will not be returning as a Parent Rep. this year.  We thanked her for all she has done over the years.
