PRESENT:  Mary-Ann Hoban – Chairperson, Tammy Turner – Treasurer/Parent Rep., Dave Passi – Principal, Christine Turnbull – Teacher Rep., Nicole Cliteur – Student Rep., Kelly Sagle – Parent Rep.

ABSENT:  Nancy Pageau – Tuck Shop Rep., Marcia Newton – Secretary/Parent Rep.

Meeting commenced at 7:00 p.m.

1.0 Welcome – Welcome extended to our new Student Rep., Nicole Cliteur

2.0 Adoption of Minutes – Minutes were not available from the Oct. 12/04 Meeting

 - will review at next meeting.

3.0 Student Report – Nicole reported concerns with the girl’s washroom.  Some maintenance apparently needs to be done. Concerns were noted. The students also wanted to see more out-of-town sports tournaments.  Discussion was held re what was taking place in the future for students.  To date, a lot has happened with intramurals and the students and Council were pleased with this.

4.0 Tuck Shop Report – Nancy was away but it was noted, by the Treasurer, that there is a significant increase in the cost of our milk orders. We now pay $1.09 for one small container of milk. In June/04 it was less than $0.70.  Mary-Ann would contact Nancy and see what we could find out to hopefully cut the cost. We currently need to charge $1.25 a container.  We purchase our milk through the Valu-Mart, which seems too costly.

5.0 Treasurers Report – Tammy gave report.  Oct. 13/04 – Nov. 8/04.

Report is as follows:

            Balance Forwarded      $1066.32

                        Revenue                       $  509.05

                        Expenses                      $  755.58

                        Closing Balance            $  819.79

6.0 Teacher’s Report - Chris Turnbull updated Council of the intramural activities going on in the school.  Also noted that the Grade 8’s have done a wonderful job in setting up the Remembrance Day Service on November the 11th. It will be at 10:30 a.m. in the gymnasium. Chris presented a request from Pauline Meagheur to continue with milk orders, for her students at lunch hour, at $1.00 each.  Due to the concern we have with the increase cost of the milk, we asked that this class hold off until we see if we can sell the milk cheaper.  It the milk remains at $1.09, it probably would not be possible to sell it for a $1.00.  We cannot take a loss because the little profit we do make is needed to purchase plastic cutlery, ketchup, napkins, etc.

7.0 Principal’s Report – Dave presented the Council Members with his Report for October 2004  (please see attached). Some items were:

-         attended EQAO videoconference with several changes this year

-         P.D. Day on October the 1st

-         Reading Workshop presented to parents of students in JK to Grade 3

-         Dianna Cole OPP visits the school regularly

-         Three teachers enrolled in Additional Qualifications Math Part 1 Course

-         31 Grade 7 & 8 students enrolled in after school Literacy & Numeracy Program

-         Book Club meets once a month – Grades 4 to 8

-         October 5 – Bus Safety presentation to students

-         Good turnout in our Extra Curricular Activities in the school

8.0 New Business:  Discussed possibility of Council hosting a Christmas Dance for our Students.  Mary-Ann then asked if the Grade 8’s could take it on as a fundraiser for their class trip.  Council was agreeable to this.  We are hoping to have a Sock Hop from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the JK’s to Grade 4’s.  A dance would then follow at 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for the Grade 5’s to Grade 8’s.  Visitors would have to sign in and be approved to attend by the teacher in charge. Dave and Chris have agreed to help out.  Chris will probably chaperone the dance and we need to find another teacher for the Sock Hop.  Mary-Ann thought that Belinda might be interested.  Mary-Ann would call OLOL to see when they plan on hosting their Christmas Dance and then go from there.
