Minutes - Wednesday, March 9, 2005
PRESENT: Mary Ann Hoban – Chairperson, Marcia Newton – Secretary/Parent Rep., Dave Passi – Principal, Nicole Cliteur – Student Rep., Nancy Pageau – Tuck Shop Rep., and Kelly Sagle – Parent Rep.
ABSENT: Tammy Turner – Treasurer/Parent Rep., Christine Turnbull – Teacher Rep.
Meeting commenced at 6:30 p.m.

A welcome was extended to Dolores Labelle (parent).

February 7, 2005
4.0 Student Report – Nicole reported that the students involved in intramural curling would be traveling to Terrace Bay on March the 24th to participate in a tournament. The “Kids Are Authors” Program had a wrap up luncheon today with a power point presentation. The results from there entry will be available in June. Sergeant Dan Peters will be in during the month of April with an Anti Bullying Program. The Grade 8 Auction is to take place March 31, 2005.
Congratulations to Nicole as she is heading off to Toronto working as a Legislative Page for a month.

Business Arising
5.1) Tuck Shop – Nancy reported that we would be adding “Pogos” to the Tuck Shop after the March Break ($1.00 each). The Tuck Shop has been very busy and still requires more volunteers. The milk order has now been canceled until the beginning of April. Nancy requires more cheques from Tammy to continue payment of the milk orders. Mary-Ann will relay message to Tammy re this. Tammy requested clarification of the cheque number for the purchase of relish and mustard. This information was provided to Mary-Ann to forward on to Tammy. Nancy informed Council that she would not be available to run the operation of the Tuck Shop during the next school year. Council is going to have to apply for the Milk Program (done each year). The World School Milk Day is September the 29th.
5.2) Numeracy Program – This Program is now in full operation.
6.0 Treasurer’s Report – Tammy prepared report, February 8, 2005 to March 2, 2005. Mary Ann presented, the report is as follows:

7.0 Teacher’s Report – Dave presented for Chris (see Principal’s Report).
8.0 Principal’s Report – Dave presented the Council Members with his Report for February 2005 (please see attached). Some items were:

9.0 New Business:
9.1 No Smoking Policy – The M.P.S. has already been inspected by the Township of Manitouwadge to ensure the By-Law is followed in the workplace.
9.2 “Kids are Authors” request – Mrs. Woodrow/ Mrs. Gould requested funding from the Parent Council to cover the cost of a luncheon for the staff and students that participated in this Program. All council members agreed to this expenditure. Mary-Ann asked that the bill be forwarded to the Treasurer for payment.
9.3 Early School Start Time next year – This was brought to Council by a concerned parent. Dave explained the two School Boards in Manitouwadge share one busing system, therefore each year the schools alternate start times. Dave could not directly answer all questions so requested this parent stop by the School Office and a contact name and phone number, of the Superior-Greenstone District School Board Member, would be provided to her. Parent would also like a copy of the Minutes.
9.4 Relay for Life BBQ – The Grade 8’s Fundraising Committee has agreed to run the barbeque for this event (starts at 5:00 p.m. till they wish to finish)
9.5 Surveillance Cameras – A grant application was available if such equipment was deemed necessary. Dave contacted Mary-Ann, prior to our meeting, and after a brief discussion, agreed cameras would not be necessary.
9.6 School Principles – A pamphlet from the Superior-Greenstone District School Board was handed out to all Council Members. They are requesting Council submit a letter indicating the most important characteristics (prioritize the top five attributes) of an ideal principal for your school. Mary-Ann reported that the Council supports the teacher’s input in regard to this request.
9.7 Health Inspector – A concern regarding the preparation of hot dogs was brought forward by the Health Inspector and this issue has been dealt with.
9.8 Turn Off the Screens Week – Dave is looking for new and innovative ideas for the school to participate in during the week of April the 25th to 29th. Council will support school’s ideas.
9.9 School Dance – The Grade 8 Fundraising Committee will be holding a school dance on April the 8th.
9.10 JK Enrollment – To date 7 students have registered for the next school year. Council had a discussion in regards to next year’s budget.
