Monday February 7, 2005

 

PRESENT:  Mary Ann Hoban – Chairperson, Marcia Newton – Secretary/Parent Rep., Tammy Turner – Treasurer/Parent Rep., Dave Passi – Principal, Nancy Pageau – Tuck Shop Rep. Christine Turnbull – Teacher Rep., Kelly Sagle – Parent Rep., Nicole Cliteur – Student Rep.

 

Meeting commenced at 6:30 p.m.

 

1.0 Welcome

2.0 Adoption of Agenda – Add on Grade 8 Auction and Strategic Planning

3.0 Adoption of Minutes – January 10, 2005

4.0 Student Report - Nicole informed the council that the grade 8 students our busy with other activities and would not be interested in organizing a school dance.  The intramural volleyball students are off to Marathon on the 14th.  The Kids for Authors program will be coming to an end this month.  There are 8 – 10 students participating, writing and illustrating for a contest.

5.0 Business Arising

   5.1Tuck Shop Report - Nancy reported that the milk prices have gone up from the suppliers but assured us that we did not have to raise our selling prices.  The format set up last month to pay for the milk is working well.  As we are short volunteers to work the Tuck shop, some Grade 8 students have filled in.  A hand washing station has now been put into the Tuck Shop.

   5.2 School Dances – Dave Passi is going to check into the possibility and set a date if possible.

   5.3 Tsunami Relief Fund – Thank you to the Grade 8 students, Mrs. Turnbull and all parents who donated baking.  The grand total was $1056.00.  There will be an article in next weeks echo. 

   5.4 Literary and Numeracy Programs – The Numeracy program will be going ahead.  Scheduling arrangements are yet to be finalized.  The program is available to grade 7 & 8 students and it is based on problem solving.

6.0 Treasurers Report – Tammy gave report.  Jan 10/05 – Feb 2/05.  Report is as follows:       

            Balance Forwarded            $1099.70

                        Revenue                      $  688.80

                        Expenses                     $  754.50

                        Closing Balance            $1034.00

7.0 Teacher’s Report – Chris Turnbull reported the Tsunami fundraising was a busy time for all.  She also informed the council of the intramural activities going on in the school currently; Sr. Basketball – Tuesday and Thursday, Net Ball for the Jr.’s – Monday and Wednesday, Drama Club - Wednesday and Curling – Monday after school.  There was also mention of students going to Terrace Bay at the end of March for curling.

8.0 Principal’s Report –Dave presented the council members with a brief outline of happenings in the school throughout January.  Some items were:

·        Professional Development opportunities

·        New Educational Assistant

·        Intramurals

·        Esso Math Program – program provided through The Family Center

·        Numeracy Program

9.0 New Business 

   9.1 Parent Voice in Education Videoconference – Dave attended and informed the council the intent of this session.  Each council member received an information package and questionnaire to complete if desired.

   9.2 JK/SK Registration – There are 4 students registered to date.  There have been advertisements placed in the echo and on Channel 22.

   9.3 PD Day – A reminder has been sent home in the student newsletter for February 4/05.

   9.4 Penny Power – This is a new program in the classrooms running from Feb 1 – 14th.  All funds are being raised for disabled children in N.W.O.

   9.5 Grade 8 Auction – Council was approached to donate an item for the auction being held at the end of March.  All were in favor.  Tammy will purchase an item worth $50.00 to be donated towards the Grade 8 fundraiser.

   9.6 Strategic Planning – A handout from the Superior-Greenstone District School Board outlining the direction the school board is heading was given to each council member to review.

10.0 Correspondence – Boost Me Up: Booster Seat Guide for Educators – this package of information was donated to The Early Years program.

11.0 Next Meeting Date – Monday March 7th @ 6:30 p.m.
